The Elder Tree

The ELDER is a tree whose reputation has been aspersed by Christians, no doubt because of the reverence and affection with which it was regarded in pagan times.

Middling Wise

By Michael Boyd AOR I have often been accused of being ‘extreme’ on certain issues concerning ethics and morality, yet I can only smile and say, “true”. An elderly friend of mine named Gordon Clark, long since deceased, used to say when accused of ‘extremism’, “Extreme? You’re damn right I am extreme; I love my folk and friends as much as I hate my enemies”. His point, despite the tone, was that at times extremism is needed and often just means ‘true’.

Spirit: Instinct, Intellect and Emotion PART 1

By Tyrsegil Bloodketil

Spirit is the vitality of being, the essence of existence without which life would not be possible. Conversely, spirit cannot exist without matter, marking the reliance of the physical body and spirit upon one another as integral. In the purest Pan-Aryan spiritual systems the significance of the spirit comprises the core of sacred teachings from the Old Norse önd and odh (Germanic wod) to the Sanskrit prana and atman (Germanic athem) representing the Breath of Life and Self respectively.

A Chain Made of Generations

Ancestor is a word we hear a lot in Odinism. At seasonal blots and special rituals such as a Naming, Profession or Bael we hear it and hopefully within your home you hear this term as well. So what does this word mean and why is it so important?

What it means to be Folkish

Little Red Hens

by Hengest Thorsson OR All of you, as OR members should be aware that our myths are multi-layered and full of symbolism. They can be accessed on many levels and depending on our level of development will reveal varying degrees of guidance and wisdom to us.

Odinism and (Anti-) Christianity

By Mark Puryear Our religion is an ancient ethnic heritage, for our folk, which emphasizes the importance of true cultural diversity and respect for all peoples. With that said, it seems odd to me that any of us would then turn around and challenge the progress of our movement by attacking any parallels to Christianity we may find in our research.

The myth of William Tell

By Hariulf OR First of all this article is not really an Odinic article, but I would like to share with you a very important myth for Switzerland. The very interesting thing with this myth is that it is very close to two other myths of Germanic lore: Toko's story reported by Saxo Grammaticus and the Dietrich von Bern/Thidrek's saga.

Positive Resistance as Heathen Virtue

Within a sound morality and in recognition of the lifestruggle is the virtue of resistance: resistance to degeneracy, to vice, to atheism, to monotheism, to universalism, unsoundness, stagnancy, ad infinitum.

Preparing a Ritual Drinking Horn: A folk recipe of sorts

by Dave Hobson AOR Every ritual object that we fashion for ourselves is charged with much more power than a purchased object could possible contain. This power, in turn, charges both the liquid that it will hold and the folk who will pass it in Sumble or in Blot. It is a very simple task to create your own drinking horn—don't be intimidated by the magical significance. Like all things, the result is far more impressive than the method.
