Exploring the Blot – Part 2: The Sacred Verse

,
In ancient societies poetry was an incredibly important factor of religious expression, especially in Teutonic Europe where Skaldic and Eddic art forms were highly valued and praised among the folk. In fact, every piece of lore that has survived from the pre-Christian era in this region was written in verse. Therefore, it would be safe to say that this practice was also used in the writing of prayers (boenar) and blotar as well. When we consider the fact that the Hindus, our Indo-European cousins, have retained their sacred verse forms and meters (Anustup, Mahapadapunkti, etc.) in liturgical hymns and prayers for thousands of years, it is easy to see that the same would have been the case for us, had it not been for the Christian invasions.

LAW, JUSTICE, FREEDOM

AS A PEOPLE we are noted for our law-abiding qualities or recognition of the need for order. As Odinists we realise even more the need for order if we are to flourish. Nature is ordered, a fact which escapes many hippy-type heathens. If order breaks down chaos descends. So what is order?

Community: A Lesson from our Saxon Ancestors

Today we hear a lot about the 'community'. In most cases this is a corruption of the term, for it has little to do with the majority of the indigenous population, but is either a way of setting up 'experts' over us, to reduce our power to run our own affairs in ways best suited to us - hence the legion of 'community officers' - or else it is basically a code-name to give special categories special status or rights not given to the majority.

‘DEATH’

Fogmoon heralds the strangest point in the year when much of nature’s physicality has apparently ‘died’ and ‘gone to ground.’ The veil between the worlds of ‘past,’ ‘present,’ and ‘future’ seems very thin. This cold, dark time, when Sunna sinks to her lowest point at Yule and is~ then ‘reborn’ at Mother Night is a yearly Ragnarok for nature replete with customs and mythology, reflecting its enduring power within our consciousness.

MAY LOKI BE BOUND part II

Following publication in the last ORB of the 'MAY LOKI BE BOUND article, I received some very good feedback and questions. As it is vital for both personal growth and the advance of our Holy religion that this figure is properly understood, I think it would be helpful for all OR members to see the pertinent questions and the response.

‘Real’ Odinism Is Where True Odinists Be

ODINISM as the organic faith of our folk has evolved from a shared experience around the central pillars of and in accordance with the moves of the great creative forces identified as gods. One aspect of this is reflected in the deep reverence we give to our ancestors and to nature itself.

Odinism and Magic

I have heard it said that 'Magic has nothing to do with Odinism', which is singularly uninformed comment when it is seen that Odin, among much else, is a God of Magic. Furthermore, magical acts by Gods and men run throughout our myths and sagas. I do not, in this article, intend to define what Magic is. Suffice it to say that in its widest sense it permeates all and that certain of its aspects have been categorised as ESP, telepathy, natural science, and occultism.

Folk building is a basic concept that should be a vital concern for all folkish people. The theory of folk building is to create a community within a community.
